This experience is intended for people who have done the Introductory Better Breathing session or have similar background & experience to what is in that experience description.
This Extension experience builds on the Introductory content getting into more detail about the autonomic nervous system and heart rate variability, as well as the vagus nerve, as it applies to breathing. You will learn how breathing can help bring you into a state of natural resilience from states of hyper- or hypo-arousal, and try out practical methods to achieve this.
The methods taught will vary depending on the needs and experience of the participants, though standard methods will include “box breathing” and “viloma” interrupted breathing.
More Detail: about breath work and how it can be beneficial
PREPARATION
Wear lose or elastic clothing that permits free movement. It is helpful to have a warmer layer (e.g., sweater, hoodie, etc.) you can remove or put back on to adjust to any changes in temperature from breathing exercises. Bring a blanket that can be folded to provide a cushioned floor mat and (if you have one) a meditation cushion or anything else that helps you sit in an upright position.
